My Way for playing KULT

Hi everybody.

Fisrt of all my name is Michael and i am mad too... I've seen The Truth and my mind is branded, my soul is burned and my eyes are blinded for lie.

Seriously Michaech aka de99ial (its pronounced "deggial"). Im from Poland so... im sorry for my english. Its not perfect.

What i wanted is to tell You how i like play in KULT. Usually im the GM so it is my burden.

I really like screwing with Players, so ive managed specific type of playing.

Two ways.

1. We tell them we play in KULT. Do the introduction to game, some parts for cosmology and other. Then we play normal, absolute normal criminal stories. No KULT cosmology, no Truth and no magick. Just logic. And watch like players get into it and seeing everywhere the Lictors work, Archonts influence and all.

2. My favourited. I take a normal RPG game, modern or sf (it works with everything - Cthulhu, CP 2020, Shadowrun or Neuroshima or anything else). Create PC and play. For few times play normal sessiosn. And then slowly, with small steps You insert some little pieces. Little by little You draw them into KULT reality. And play innocenc guy.

Yes, i like it and i like when Players trying understand what is happening.

Regards to all.

Hi de99ial, welcome to The Last Cycle!

You're a funny guy, you prankster! Have you ever pulled both tricks on the same players? Get them to play "Kult" first and then play a "normal" (but actually Kult) game with them after?

I tried your second idea there once, but never really got too involved with the campaign which was more of a fantasy adventure turning Kult. It didn't work out that well for me, simply because the players didn't enjoy the Kult bits I snuck into their safe little world. Oh, well. Maybe next time :)

Anyways, welcome to The Last Cycle! :)

torb - because its no an idea for one shooted scenario. You play campaign in CP 2020 for examle and in one moment madness starts. Little by little. Players usually tries to explain themself this weird bits - like corp experiment or war casulties. But the its just starst - illusion shatters ;D

DO NOT EXPLAIN - do it :D

True that. I think my players understood pretty soon where I was headed since they had all played Kult before.

I wouldn't like it either if I was a player.
I mean, when I order steak in a restaurant I won't be too happy if they bring me a fish disguised like a steak.
If I want to watch a superhero movie I won't be too pleased when it turns out I'm looking at Grey's Anatomy (even though I like both).

Not everyone likes surprises.

As gamemaster (or storyteller or whatever) you have a responsibility to your players. You can't just do whatever you like even though it seems like you can. In a way a GM is a lot more restricted than players.
A responsible one anyway.
It's not always a good thing to act like a sadistic little overlord... :P
